It has long been proven that a com­pa­ny’s great­est as­set is its peo­ple, yet many com­pa­nies strug­gle to source, at­tract, de­vel­op and re­tain per­sons equipped to con­sis­tent­ly cre­ate val­ue and re­alise their fullest po­ten­tial, through shared vi­sion, team­work, and com­mit­ment to long-term suc­cess. The FI­FA World Cup 2026 has high­light­ed how suc­cess­ful foot­ball na­tions have per­fect­ed sys­tems to con­sis­tent­ly source tal­ent, pro­duce elite per­form­ers and build co­he­sive teams. Coun­tries in­clud­ing Eng­land, France, Ger­many, Spain and Mo­roc­co, have de­vel­oped ecosys­tems that iden­ti­fy, de­vel­op, at­tract and re­tain glob­al tal­ent.

Two of the re­gion’s lead­ing food man­u­fac­tur­ers have ex­pressed in­ter­est in ex­plor­ing the fu­ture of Nestlé Trinidad and To­ba­go’s dairy and juices busi­ness if the com­pa­ny opens dis­cus­sions with po­ten­tial buy­ers.

Even as many T&T house­holds con­tin­ue to com­plain that it is be­com­ing hard­er to stretch their salaries to cov­er gro­cery bills and every­day ex­pens­es, Cen­tral Bank Gov­er­nor Lar­ry Howai says of­fi­cial da­ta con­tin­ues to show in­fla­tion re­mains un­der con­trol and the broad­er econ­o­my has re­mained sta­ble dur­ing the first half of 2026.

As was the case with the pre­vi­ous gov­ern­ment, the cur­rent ad­min­is­tra­tion seems very caught up in mak­ing an­nounce­ments that do not ap­pear to be based on any well-thought-out pol­i­cy or even a sem­blance of a cost-ben­e­fit analy­sis, not to men­tion the en­vi­ron­men­tal and so­cial im­pacts of their an­nounce­ments.

In Trinidad and To­ba­go, com­pli­ance is still too of­ten viewed as the func­tion that slows things down, asks dif­fi­cult ques­tions, and says “no” when busi­ness wants to move quick­ly. I un­der­stand why that per­cep­tion ex­ists. Com­pli­ance can feel de­mand­ing, es­pe­cial­ly when dead­lines are tight, cus­tomer ex­pec­ta­tions are high, and reg­u­la­to­ry oblig­a­tions con­tin­ue to ex­pand.
